Jacquard Properties

How is jacquard made – a fabric with unique patterns?

Jacquard fabric is made on looms equipped with the Jacquard mechanism. This machine is an isthmus device designed for weaving multi-colored and patterned materials, which makes it possible to obtain almost any pattern.

Interestingly, the motif is created not only by separating it with a different color. Monochromatic jacquard can also be woven on looms, in which the pattern is the result of a different arrangement of weft or warp threads. Thanks to this, it is slightly concave or convex and reflects light slightly differently, creating the impression of a different color. Patterns can also be colored, which is achieved by two methods – by using different colors of weft threads or warp. In this way, multithreaded or multi-warp jacquards are formed.

The applied weaving techniques and various weaves such as canvas, twill or satin make jacquard fabrics extremely rich in elaborate decorations. Already at the stage of creation, the pattern becomes an integral part of the material, thanks to which there is a certainty that the decoration will not wipe, scratch or stretch.

What can be sewn from jacquard?

Jacquard – a fabric with a massive and heavy structure – raises a lot of controversy. Certainly, however, you should not be afraid of it. It is also a good material for furniture upholstery, especially dining chairs or low stools accompanying women's dressing tables.

How to care for jacquard?

Jacquard and other structural fabrics must not be wet washed. Costumes sewn from these materials must be given each time for dry cleaning. They are ironed as standard on the left side.
