Its proper term is simply "thick jersey".

Do you know what characterizes foam fabric? In today's entry we suggest why it is worth paying attention to this type of knitwear and in which projects it will work best.

What is characterized by fabric foam (diver)

The elastic fabric, also referred to as clothing foam, is a fleshy and pleasant to the touch jersey, reminiscent of diving suits. This is a material that gained immense popularity a few years ago, due to the popularity of dresses with an A cut, with a gently stiffened skirt.

"Diver" is very soft, does not crease at all and is comfortable to wear. The foam is extremely light and resilient. The most common variant is a diver's fabric with a synthetic composition. However, despite everything, it wins the sympathy of many people, delighting with a perfect fit to the figure and outstanding flexibility that guarantees comfort of wearing.

Versatile fabric foam – clothing knitwear

Thanks to its properties , foam fabric is especially popular in autumn and winter. The biggest advantage of this type of knitwear is its incredible strength and durability. It is also resistant to damage caused by various weather conditions. Depending on the thickness, it can also be used to create light jackets or trousers. It is a knitted fabric that impresses with its versatility.

The foam can be easily kept in good condition, because it does not require complicated care treatments. At the same time, a treat for declared opponents of ironing – knitted diver does not crease and nicely retains its shape!

In which projects will the diver's fabric work

Popular, one could say "typical diver", is a versatile material from which various wardrobe items can be created, but also home accessories or accessories. The versatility of the material owes primarily to the weave. Dense knitwear, often with an admixture of elastane, lycra or spandex, stretches well, adapting to a given shape, while maintaining its durability.

Versatile foam fabric (diver) is suitable for making such elements as:

leggings, gaiters, shorts and thin sweatshirts (useful in spring or winter, depending on the thickness of the material),

swimwear and sportswear,

dresses, tunics, skirts, trousers and jackets.

Diver fabric can also be used in other ways, for example to make all kinds of home decorations. You will make a tread for the table from it, but also practical sachets, beauticians, backpacks, wallets or handbags.

Material with an original pattern will work especially well for the youngest. With the help of durable foam, you can create organizers for toys or covers for decorative pillows for a sofa.

Sewing using diver-type knitwear

Thicker jersey is quite easy to process. It does not require much preparation. A common problem that can arise when sewing clothes from foam is that the material turns out to be slippery. Then the material may run over on the sewing machine, which will make it difficult to work. It is worth remembering about the selection of needles dedicated to sewing knitted fabrics (jersey or stretch needles) and properly adjust the pressure of the machine foot and act slowly so as not to stretch the material. This is a knitted fabric that will not fray at the edges, but for an aesthetic effect, it is worth finishing the material with an overlock.
